How Much Is My Claim Worth?

As we have explained there are a wide range of situations in which you may be injured as a result of clinical negligence, and therefore a wide range of potential injury types of varying severity. How much you could receive in compensation is of course dependant upon the nature of the injury and the severity of the same.

We will give you some examples of how much you could get for common clinical negligence cases but before doing so it is important that we highlight the fact that the figures quoted below are for general damages only.

In addition to general damages, essentially a payment for actually the injury in question, you may also be entitled to what is known as special damages. In some cases, especially the more severe medical conditions, it is not uncommon at all for the special damages award to be significantly higher than that for general damages. Special damages need to be calculated on an individual case by case basis and include criteria such as:

  • Loss of earnings and loss of future earnings
  • Loss of pension
  • Care costs
  • Costs of adapting your home
  • Costs of ongoing treatment
  • Expenses incurred

In terms of general damages it should be noted that in the UK compensation awards are not as generous as perhaps they could be or should be. Typical awards can range from hundreds of pounds to hundreds of thousands depending on the severity of the individual case.

Our specialist clinical negligence solicitors can tell you how much you could expect to receive in compensation, and will do so free of charge and without any obligation to proceed with a claim.
